Autumn in Arachova: What to Do Before the Snow Arrives

September and October are ideal months for hiking around Arachova, before snow closes the paths. The «Arachova Trails» start from the village itself — three circular routes of 5, 11 and 21 kilometres, suited to every level of experience, with views over the valley and Mount Parnassos.

For something more demanding, the Corycian Cave — a striking stalactite cave, a sanctuary of Pan and the Muses in antiquity — is reached by a waymarked path just above Delphi. More experienced hikers can also follow the section of the European E4 path between Eptalofos and Delphi, inside the Parnassos National Park.

Autumn in Arachova brings sunshine, cool air and clear skies — without the summer heat or the winter cold. It is one of the best times for a short family trip: easy walks through the village, unhurried time in the square and activities at a gentler pace, without the crowds and traffic of the ski season. Ideal for families with children who want a little nature and rest, without the rush.

Autumn is also an excellent moment to taste Arachova. The tavernas serve grilled PDO Arachova formaela with honey, homemade hilopites pasta and local thyme honey from Parnassos.

Wine lovers can visit the Argyriou winery in Polydroso, in the wider Parnassos area — one of the few wineries in Phocis open to visitors.

Delphi is only around 10 kilometres from Arachova — roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car. In autumn, without the tour buses of summer, the archaeological site and the museum are far calmer. It is the perfect moment to see the Oracle, the stadium and the Sanctuary of Apollo without queues or crowds.

Free of the summer and winter crush, autumn is the best time to walk Arachova's stone-paved lanes, step into the small shops with their handwoven textiles and traditional Roumeli rugs, and sit at a café on the square without hunting for a table.
