Christmas, New Year & Epiphany in Arachova: How to Plan Your Holidays

The holidays in Arachova have a character of their own: stone houses, a festively decorated main street, cosy cafés and tavernas, and Mount Parnassos setting the winter scene. The village sits at 960 metres, about two hours from Athens, while Delphi and the Parnassos Ski Centre are close by — which makes it a good fit for a weekend break or a longer escape.
The stretch from 20 December to 7 January is the busiest of the year, and demand is already building. Below you will find the key dates, what to expect and how to plan your days.
Holiday dates 2026–2027
Christmas: Friday 25 December 2026, with a long weekend 25–27/12.
New Year: Friday 1 January 2027, with a long weekend 1–3/1.
Epiphany: Wednesday 6 January 2027.
Christmas in Arachova
Over the holidays the main street fills with decorations and lights, the Clock on the Rock of Ora stands out above the decorated village, and carols are heard everywhere. In nearby villages such as Amfikleia and Agoriani, the squares are decorated too. A stroll through the lanes, coffee, mulled wine and a dinner of local products are often the heart of the holidays here — not just an appendix to skiing.
For Christmas 2026, a stay from 24–27 December (three nights) leaves you time for the village, the mountain and a day trip to Delphi. Each year's events are usually announced as the holidays approach, so check the programme before you travel.
New Year in Arachova
The cafés-bars and restaurants of the area usually prepare special menus and music for New Year's Eve, and tables fill up early. Since 1 January falls on a Friday, a stay from 31 December to 3 January gives you New Year's Eve, an outing to Mount Parnassos and a relaxed final day in the village. If you have a particular restaurant in mind, book your table early.
Epiphany in Arachova
Epiphany falls on Wednesday 6 January, so there is no easy long weekend. Those who want to finish the holidays on the mountain usually combine it with the first weekend of January or take a day or two off, for example with a stay from 4–7 January. Weather and conditions on the mountain change from year to year, so choose your activities close to your visit date.
Parnassos Ski Centre
The slopes stretch from 1,640 to 2,250 metres, with views over the Gulf of Corinth. The season opening depends on snow: in 2025–2026 the official opening was announced for 23 December, with limited operation (mainly lifts and the beginner slope) due to little snow. So don't build your whole plan around skiing. Before setting out:
Check operations and conditions on the official website of the Parnassos Ski Centre.
Carry snow chains and check road conditions before you leave.
Sort out your equipment — if you don't have your own, look into rentals and lessons.
Allow extra time for the drive and for parking on busy days.

What to do in Arachova if you don't ski
You don't need to be a winter-sports enthusiast to enjoy the holidays here.
A stroll around the centre: leave the car and explore the lanes, the shops with local products and the cafés.
Local gastronomy: try grilled PDO Arachova formaela, homemade hilopites pasta, local meats, local wine and honey from Parnassos.
A day on Parnassos without skis: at Kelaria and Fterolakka there is a panoramic cable-car ride and a sledding area for children, and snowshoe walks are organised when the snow allows. Livadi has an ice rink. Check hours and availability before you go.
A day trip to Delphi: about 10–15 minutes by car. See our detailed day-trip guide and check the official opening hours before you set off.
Slow hours at your accommodation: a calm breakfast, a coffee after your walk and a warm room with a fireplace are part of the experience.

How many days to stay over the holidays
How long to stay depends on whether you want skiing, Delphi or simply the village.
Three nights are enough to combine village, mountain and a cultural outing without squeezing the schedule. At Ef Zin, from 22 December to 6 January the minimum stay is three nights.
Four or more: you move at a more relaxed pace and adapt your outings to the weather and conditions. If you are travelling with family or need a specific room type, decide your dates early.
When to book for the holidays
For 20 December – 7 January our advice is to book at least one to two months ahead — which means now. Searching early lets you compare dates and choose the room type that suits you. Before completing your booking, check the arrival and departure dates, the room's capacity and layout, what the rate includes (such as breakfast), the cancellation and payment terms, and the access and parking information.
The ski centre cannot be known with certainty weeks in advance, so it's wise for your plans to have alternatives.
Where to stay in Arachova over the holidays
Accommodation near the centre lets you walk to the square, the cafés and the restaurants without constantly using the car.
Ef Zin Hotel is on Arachova's main road, opposite the municipal car park and a short walk from the central square. Its location offers easy parking and quick access out towards Delphi and the Parnassos Ski Centre, while the rooms with fireplaces create a cosy atmosphere on cold days. Room types range from Superior Double rooms and Suites to Family Studios for families, so you can pick the layout that fits your trip.

Plan your winter escape
Whether you choose Christmas, New Year's Eve or the days around Epiphany, Arachova combines the mountain, local gastronomy, village strolls and a day trip to Delphi. Lock in your dates, check conditions on Parnassos and choose the stay that fits your plans.
And leave some free time in the schedule. A beautiful winter escape doesn't have to be packed with activities: sometimes a walk through the village, a good meal and returning to a warm room at the end of the day are enough.
